Kanye West wants to run for President

Kanye West wants to run for President

It turns out Kanye West wasn't joking when he announced his intention to run for United States president at the VMAs. Now he offers his reasons for want to run for the highest elected office.

The artist famously announced his bid for the presidency onstage at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, and since then he has reiterated that once day he'll run to become the leader of the free world.

"If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I'm alive, I'm going to try to do it."

He admitted he is "not a politician" and therefore he has a lot to learn. "I don't have views on politics, I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth."

He added: "I sit in clubs and I'm like, Wow, I've got five year before I go and run for office and I've got a lot of research to do, I've got a lot of growing up to do."

"We are numb, we are numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year, we're numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July... we're numb to places on the Earth that we don't live - like our life is okay but it's okay for other people's lives to not be okay,"The Life of Pablo rapper explained.

"When I talk about the idea of being president, I'm not saying I have any political views," he added. "I don't have views on politics, I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I'm alive I'm going to try to do it."

Although Kanye West‘s initial intention was to run for president in 2020, he changed his mind and decided to run for high office in 2024 instead after talking to Donal Trump.

Kanye also said that Trump's victory only reaffirmed his desire to become president. "Rappers are philosophers of our now, celebrities are the influencers of our now, just look at the president," he explained. "(Trump) wasn't in politics and won."

Kanye met with Trump "to discuss a potential role for the rapper," something akin to "an ambassador for sorts." Since then, Kanye has taken to Twitter to offer more details on their discussion. "I wanted to meet with Trump to discuss multicultural issues," such as "bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago," Kanye tweeted.

He added: "I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change."

Apparently, that conversation was a productive one as Kanye decided to postpone his presidential run as to not run against Trump in 2020. Instead, he decided to run for president in 2024.

In between performing his biggest hits in his concert in San Jose, California, the rapper reiterated that his own presidential aspirations are still going strong in the wake of this year's election cycle.

"I'm concerned about putting our concept of how to do the (president's) job in a new way and if no one will do it in that way, I will take position in 2020 and do it myself," Kim Kardashian's husband explained.

Carrie Fisher’s 5 best screen roles

Carrie Fisher’s 5 best screen roles

Carrie Fisher may have become a pop icon after she played Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" films, but that's not the only role she ever played. Now after her death, we remember her for other roles as well.

The late Carrie Fisher will always be associated with Star Wars' princess Leia Organa. "She's me and I'm her and it's kind of a Möbius strip," said the actress. "I carry her around and I know her better than anybody else and we wear the same clothes a lot of times. She's mine." But Leia is not the only character Fisher has interpreted. Here are some of her best film and TV roles:

The Blues Brothers

(1980) One of Fisher's most memorable roles is as the maniac ex-girlfriend of John Belushi's "Joliet" Jake. As she played this hilarious role, she had to hunt down the Blues Brothers while giving an amazing speech about being left at the altar before being seduced by Jake.

Do you remember this quote?

Jake: It's good to see you, sweetheart.

Mystery Woman: You contemptible pig! I remained celibate for you. I stood at the back of a cathedral, waiting, in celibacy, for you, with three hundred friends and relatives in attendance. My uncle hired the best Romanian caterers in the state. To obtain the seven limousines for the wedding party, my father used up his last favor with Mad Pete Trullo. So for me, for my mother, my grandmother, my father, my uncle, and for the common good, I must now kill you, and your brother.

(Jake falls to his knees)

Jake: Oh please, don't kill us! Please, please don't kill us! You know I love you baby. I wouldn't leave ya. It wasn't my fault!

Mystery Woman: You miserable slug! You think you can talk your way out of this? You betrayed me.

Jake: No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in front out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

(Elwood covers his head in anticipation of more gunfire, Jake removes his sunglasses to make a wordless appeal, and the Mystery Woman visibly softens)

Mystery Woman: Oh, Jake... Jake, honey...

(Jake embraces the Mystery Woman and they kiss)

Jake: (to Elwood) Let's go.

(He drops the Mystery Woman and walks off)

Another memorable role is as Marie in When Harry Met Sally (1989). She played the role of the spunky best friend of Meg Ryan's Sally. Fisher had a Rolodex filled with men's names. She is famous for responding to the news of Sally's breakup with, "You mean Joe's available?"

On Catastrophe (2015), Fisher was Rob's mother, Mia, in the Amazon comedy. She was a bit unstable and foul-mouthed character, who would call her son, who lived in London, from America, sometimes at 4 a.m. her time. Most of the time it was to give him unsolicited advice.

Her co-star Sharon Horgan wrote on Instagram that Fisher "was the most generous, fun, gifted, smart, kind, funny, funny, funny person I've ever met."

One of her most memorable cameos was in 30 Rock (2007). Fisher guest-starred on the second season of the NBC sitcom as a feminist comedy writer invited by Tina Fey's Liz Lemon invites to write for TGS. Her ideas were too controversial for Liz Lemon, which led to the famous quote "Never go with a hippie to a second location."

Tina Fey's wrote this statement after Fisher's demise: "Carrie Fisher meant a lot to me. Like many women my age, Princess Leia occupies about sixty percent of my brain at any given time. But Carrie's honest writing and her razor-sharp wit were an even greater gift. I feel so lucky that I got to meet her. I'm very sad she is gone."
